Robert DeGaetano, Pianist-Composer

Jean Browne

Robert DeGaetano and Jean have been friends and collaborators since 1982. One of his early compositions was The Challenger, a suite of portraits on each of the 7 astronauts who were killed in the January 28, 1986 space shuttle tragedy. The world premiere occurred in the presence of the astronauts' families at Lincoln Center in November, 1987. It was filmed live for television and featured on a special segment of CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Kurault. Robert dedicated The Challenger to Jean as the tragedy happened on her birthday and they were together when it happened and he decided to write a tribute.  See Interview

Over the years they have collaborated on all of his recordings where Jean acted as his music advisor, editor, and/or session producer. When he is preparing a concerto, Jean plays the orchestra part in run thrus to help him prepare. She has programed his recitals for many years and has helped with various promotional tasks.

Sadly, Robert passed away on February 12, 2015.
