For dear Jean—with fondest wishes for a happy life with music.

Norman Shetler

July 18, 1971

Jean studied with Norman Shetler in the summer of 1969 at the first Summer Vocal Institute sponsored by AIMS in Freiburg, Germany. In 1972 they both returned to the Summer Vocal Insttute the year it moved to Graz, Austria.

In 1972 she flew to Arizona to turn pages for a concert he was accompanying for Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

When she was working as an opera coach in Osnabrück, Germany Jean traveled to see his "Puppenabend," a brilliant evening of puppetry where Norman spoofs classical music and singers.

They reconnected in 2002 when Jean accompanied pianist Robert DeGaetano to Bratislava as his music advisor and session producer to record two Rachmaninov concerti with the Slovak Radio Orchestra, and again in 2012 for the recording of DeGaetano's Piano Concerto with the Moravian Philharmonic in Olomous, Czech Republic.

Also in 2012 when Jean was on tour with Musikanten in Vienna, she participated in one of his Master Classes.
